Sonic Hugs acoustic treatment

Felt ceiling clouds and wall panels that take the echo out of a room

When a room echoes, words blur into each other and teachers end up raising their voices. Sonic Hugs are our felt ceiling clouds, baffles and wall panels that take the echo out, so speech is clearer and the room feels calmer. There are three levels of cover, chosen after a site visit, and we confirm the layout for each room.

Who it is for: Classrooms, halls, libraries and dining rooms

Add this to your quote basket, then add your rooms: the size, a clap test and a few photos help us prepare your site visit and quote.

What changes in the classroom

  • Clearer speech, so learners can follow the teacher more easily
  • Less strain on teachers' voices
  • A calmer room for learners who find noise hard

Three levels of calm.

Sonic Hugs come in three levels: Still, Form and Hush, which cover about 35%, 45% or 65% of the ceiling. Choose one to see how much of the room it covers and how the sound settles.

What our felt is made of.

Our clouds and wall panels are cut from PET felt: felt made from recycled PET plastic, bonded with heat. Here is what our supplier's product information says about it, and what it did in a real classroom.

Measured in a real classroom

  • 32%less echo in Classroom 1 at a school in Johannesburg, from 0.92 to 0.63 seconds
  • 43clouds of white 12 mm felt, over 45% of the ceiling

The felt, in short

  • Recycled PET plastic

Made from recycled PET plastic. The fibres are bonded with heat into a dense, non-woven felt.

  • Your shapes

Cut by CNC machine into clouds, circles, hexagons or your own shapes, with grooves routed into the face if you want them.

  • 48 colours

Three thicknesses, 12, 18 and 24 mm, in 48 colours.

  • Light to hang

Lightweight, for clouds hung from the roof or ceiling and panels fixed to walls.

  • Keeps its shape

Resists damp and holds its shape.

Our 30 mm hanging baffles

We also hang baffles in bigger spaces. The technical file for our 30 mm baffles says:

  • A core made entirely from recycled PET plastic.
  • Hard-wearing, UV resistant, humidity resistant and easy to clean.
